It’s a widely-held belief that motherhood changes a woman’s body to worse. From carrying a child inside her tummy—to which the woman obtains stretch marks, gains weight, and develops facial acne—up to post-baby, many women can attest that being a mother seemed to have taken their beauty away.
As a matter of fact, there is an old myth claiming that having a daughter could “drain all the beauty from the mother and leaves the mother looking ugly during whole pregnancy.”
In an article published by Mirror, beauty expert and author Deepa D’Angelova conducted a study, questioning why women feel ugly when they enter motherhood. The research was carried out for 12 months among 500 of her customers.
D’Angelova then discovered that they blame their feeling of being less attractive than before to their body changes such as weight gain, stretch marks, and those who were scarred by undergoing caesarean section when they gave birth. Having no “me time” were also blamed by these women.
Meanwhile, it is truly impressive that many mothers still managed to maintain their glow after becoming a mother to one or even two and three. These stunning moms are indeed an inspiration (and “fitspiration”) to all the women out there. Check out these celebrity mothers who are still worth our admiration because of their fit physique.

It may be really hard, but D’Angelova advised that it won’t hurt to still have a “me time” even if one is now the “light of the home.” The beauty expert also shared that feeling depressed over body image all the time may have greater repercussions towards one’s relationship with husband, friends, kids, and work.
“Although it is difficult (and often impossible!) with a young child, taking a bit of time each week to look good and feel good is really important. Though things do have to be sacrificed, at least in the short term, a little me time can still go a long way to rebuilding that feeling of inner beauty and self-worth.”
